For 6th Graders

by on May.27, 2011, under Uncategorized

Dear 6th graders,

My name is Hypathia. I wasn’t prepared at all on the first day. I didn’t have my map of the campus or my schedule. My best skills were in math, science, and poetry. I had help from Jacky, Naomi, Chloe, and Ramses, but I received the most help from Oscar and Justyce. What surprised me was Skyping with other classes.

I’m prepared for 7th grade. My strong points are inequalities and solving with variables on both sides. My worst were language arts and Ald. I enjoyed blogging because you could post anything descent. My advice to you is: be careful what you blog about.

Being Prepared for 6th Grade

by on May.27, 2011, under Uncategorized

I was some-what prepared for 6th grade. My best skills coming into 6th grade were math and science. A friend that really helped me was Tessa, a former 6th grader from Mr.Miller’s class. The thing that surprised me the most about 6th grade was all the computers we used.

Now that I’m moving onto 7th grade my best skills are still math and science, but I have improved in physical education. I needed to work the hardest in language arts and social studies. I enjoyed Skyping the most because we got to communicate with people all around the world. We even learned a dance. My advice to an incoming 6th grader would be, at first all the technology might seem a little over whelming, but don’t get frustrated and give up. Keep trying and if you get confused, don’t be afraid to ask questions.

Welcome To 6th Grade

by on May.27, 2011, under Uncategorized

Welcome

Welcome

I thought 6th grade would be a walk in the park but, it wasn’t.  I was good at Math and Language Arts.  I made it through with the help of several encouraging friends.  I was shocked at all of the technology we would be using.

7th grade is a different story.  Pre-Algebra will be easy but History will not be.  I still am excellent in Math but have weakened in Language Arts.  History was the hardest subject.  We had to make Google Earth Placemarks and a bunch of other things.  Skyping was really fun though.  Just remember to do your best and be good a solving puzzles.

John Brown Placemark

by on Apr.21, 2011, under Uncategorized

479px-John_Brown_daguerreotype_c1856Our class recently did a project on John Brown where we read the story “John Brown: His Fight for freedom” by John Hendrix over skype with two other classes in Kansas. We then researched John Brown and wrote a blog post on whether he was a martyr or terrorist. I think he is a martyr because he killed for what he believed in- a U.S. free of slavery. He was willing to risk his life for the slaves, and was killed for doing what no one else was willing to do- he took a stand.

After we posted our blog we had to make three comments on other posts. I wrote that I either agree with their post or added to it. In AVID I did a Google Earth place mark with Andy and Natalie. We wrote a paragraph about John Brown marrying Mary Anne Day in the year 1832. Our place mark is at John Brown’s house in Elba, New york. You cam download my file below and it will open Google Earth.

Math Word Problem Blog 3-21

by on Mar.25, 2011, under Uncategorized

I chose problem #3.  3)  Dustin wants to leave a 15% tip for his dinner that cost $13.40.  How much of a tip should Dustin leave?  First you set up proportions.  The you multiply 13.40 and 0.15 to get 2.o1.  So Dustin should leave $2.o1 for a tip.

Math Word Problem 3-7

by on Mar.08, 2011, under math, Math Word Problem, Uncategorized

I’m working on problem 2: In her pocket, Gabi has 2 green marbles, 2 orange marbles, and 2 white marbles. What is the probability that, without looking, Gabi will pick either green or white marbles? Step 1, add all of the amounts to receive 6. Six will be the denominator. Step 2, look at the words green or white marbles. This means 2 should be the numerator. Step 3, 2/6 isn’t in simplest terms, so divide the numerator and denominator by 2. Your answer should be 1/3.

I chose Problem #4.  First you multiply 71 by 3 and get $213.  Then you multiply 5 by 5 to get $25.  Finally you  add 213 + 25 to get an awnser of $238.

Natures Models

by on Mar.07, 2011, under Uncategorized

Chinese NameImagine a world where everyone did nothing ,just like nature. I’m going to talk about following natures models. Following natures models will not work. Not everyone will be able to follow natures models. It requires patience which not many people have. It also requires balance. Not everyone agrees with Confucius or Daoism. People wouldn’t want to change their religion. They also wouldn’t want to change their beliefs. Not everyone would be able to change beliefs, be patient, and learn how to be balanced. Imagine a world were everyone thought the same thing.

Math Word Problem 2-28

by on Mar.05, 2011, under Uncategorized

This week in math we had to choose a math word problem to do. I chose 1)Caleb combined the numbers -29, -15, and 8.  Then he multiplied the results by -3.  What was the correct result? First I did -29+-15 and got -44, then I added 8 to that and got -36 since it takes the sign of the larger. Finally, I multiplied -36*-3 and got 108, because when bad thing happen to bad people that’s good. The correct answer was 108.
